WoodOne Kendama World Cup Hatsukaichi 2017 Rules
Kendama World Cup is a competition to compete the score corresponding to the trick success. This year, Players can choose tricks from trick list which includes 120 of different level (level 1 ~ 12) classic to trend tricks.

We have made some changes over last years rule, so please read all the rules carefully.

Day 1 – Qualifying Round (Round 1 & 2)
– Choose up to 12 different tricks in total from the trick list level 1 – 10, the first 6 (5 main tricks + 1 backup trick) for Round 1, the rest of 6 (5 main tricks + 1 backup trick) for Round 2. You will get the points corresponding to each trick’s level.
– You can keep 1 extra trick as “backup trick” in each round,
– Choose 1 trick from the least difficult level in selected 5 main tricks or lower level as a “backup trick” in each round, and you can add the backup points in case you miss any of 5 main tricks.
【EXAMPLE】
If you pick 5 main tricks from each level 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, your backup trick will be from level 6 or lower.
– Round 1: Try 6 tricks (5 main tricks + 1 backup trick) in 180 seconds. Use ONE kendama.
– Round 2: Try other 6 tricks (5 main tricks + 1 backup trick) in 180 seconds. Use ONE kendama. You can use different kendama from Round 1. Not allowed to change kendama middle of the each round.
– Select tricks at reception on the day and submit the sheet.
– You can earn points according to the level of succeeded tricks, and total score of up to 5 tricks are counted from each round.
– The maximum score for each attempt is 50, the total is 100.
【EXAMPLE】
If you pick 5 main tricks from each level 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, and a backup trick from level 3.
-succeeded all 6 tricks.
=> You’ll get 40 points (6+7+8+9+10) , 5 main tricks are counted. A backup trick (level 3) won’t be counted.
-Missed level 7 and succeeded other 5 tricks.
=> 36 points (6+8+9+10+3)
-Missed level 9, 10 and succeeded other 4 tricks.
=> 26 points (6+7+8+3)
【Finalists】
1. Seed Frame: 6 (the winner of past 3 years of KWC, the winner of the North American, Asian and European Championship)
2. Qualifying frame: 25 (the top 25 players from qualification round, excluding seed players)
3. Special Frame (Wild Card): 4 (※)
A total of 35 people will advance to the final.
* Seed players will also participate in qualifying round to decide their starting order and score.
* If two or more players are equal score, their rankings will be determined by the SQUARE basis of the Final Round. Even if they won’t be determined, they will be determined by adding uncounted backup points, then SQUARE basis.
* If the special frame is less than 4 people, we will transfer that amount to the qualification frame on that day.
【How to be granted “wild cards”】
– Countries/regions which fail to produce players who qualified may be granted wild cards.
– Wild card players must get at least 40 points from Qualifying Round.
– ONE player from each country/region is picked out, then up to 3 players in order of highest score can proceed the Final Round.
– If less than 3 countries/regions are granted, the quota(s) will be transferred to the eliminated players.
– Thirty one finalists will be counted by gender, and 1 highest ranked player from outside the finalist will be picked from group of small numbered gender.
【 Day 2 – Final Round】
– Go up to the stage, try different tricks (from level 3 to 12) from the list as many as possible in 180 seconds.
– Points are the SQUARE of the trick’s level.
You will get 100pts from level-10 tricks, 81pts from level-9s, 64pt from level-8s, 49pts from level-7s, and so on.
– You can get points only once from each trick.
– Final Round is not a tournament, competing by the total point you get.
– The points of Qualifying Round will be added to the final score.
If you get 77 points in Qualifying Round and 700 points in Final Round, your final score will be 777 points.
– Use ONE kendama throughout the performance.
【Regulations】
– You can use any regular-sized kendama (ken cannot be taller than 17 cm / 6.7 inches), enjoy playing with your favorite kendama. We will put Kendama World Cup 2017 sticker after “Dama-Check”.
– Hole of tama must be ONE, except a string hole. Not allowed to have more than one spike and three cups. Also, the diameter of the bevel shall be within 23.5 mm (0.925 inches).
– Removable attachments (accessories) can not be removed or replaced within a 3 minute challenge time.
※Use of fixed or implanted removal attachments without making the kendamas shape different are accepted.
– Up to THREE kendamas per player can be passed “Dama-Check” for the Kendama World Cup 2017.
– Keep kendamas in excellent condition to avoid any trouble during the play. Changes of kendama in the middle of competition are NOT allowed.
– There are no judging points at the balance tricks whether you keep ken and tama stable completely. Go proceed the next part at your style.
– Don’t change or move the kendama’s string position by your other hand during the play.
– There are no limits on how many or which direction of turns or flips you do, unless otherwise specified.
– Ken or tama must not touch your hands/clothes while doing balance tricks. If you do please restart the trick.
※ At the time of video judge, if we find you touched your hands or clothes and kept going, that trick will be judged as “failed” and 200 points will be deducted from the final score.
